No Mission Impossible
Week Two
“Afraid? Not!”
MONDAY
READ the Bible story together with your family. Look it up in the Bible!
When the people were about to enter the Promiseland, the Lord told Moses to choose twelve men, one from each tribe, to go and spy out the land. Caleb and Joshua were two of the spies that were chosen. Moses told the men to check out the people that lived there, how many there were, how well their cities were protected and what kinds of food grew in the land. They gathered information for forty days. When they returned they told Moses about everything they had seen. The land was great for farming and had large amounts of fruit. They even brought back samples. They also reported that the people who lived there looked like giants and were very strong. The cities were built strong and guarded well. Ten of the spies were afraid to go back into the land. They felt that the Israelites would be defeated. But Caleb disagreed. He felt that they would be able to successfully overtake the land. Joshua agreed with him. They were the only two who had the courage to go back. (Source: Numbers 13:1-33)
TUESDAY
REFLECT as a family on the lesson taught last weekend by referring to your child’s weekend service handout. Choose one of the ideas on the “To Do at Home” section and do it as a family or encourage your child to do it independently. If you did not receive a handout, here is an example of one of the ideas mentioned: Think of another Bible story where someone had courage. Who was it and what did he or she do?
WEDNESDAY
REQUEST a time for your family to meet together for a family prayer. Give your child an opportunity to tell you some of their prayer requests. Take time for anyone who wants to pray silently or aloud. Here is a sample closing prayer.
Dear Jesus, Help us to have the courage to face difficulties. Help us to know and understand that we cannot have courage without fear. This week we pray that you will help us try something new that we have been afraid to do, so we can put our entire trust in You. Amen
THURSDAY
REMEMBER the weekly Bible verse and take turns reciting it to each family member.
“I’ve commanded you to be strong and brave. Don’t ever be afraid or discouraged” Joshua 1:9a CEV
FRIDAY
RESPOND to what you have learned as a family this week by taking an action step! Here is an example of something you can do as a family to reinforce the Bible theme for this week: Try out a new game or a sport you haven’t played together as a family.

“Accepting The Challenge”
MONDAY
READ the Bible story together with your family. Look it up in the Bible!
Jesus liked to tell parables, which are stories that have a lesson to learn. He told a story about a father and his two sons. The man asked both of his sons to help out in the vineyard that the family owned. The first son refused to work, but later on he changed his mind and went out to work. The second son promised his father that he would go out and work, but he never went. Jesus then asked the people listening to the story which son did what the father wanted. They answered, “The first.” Jesus agreed. (Source: Matthew 21:28-31a MSG)
TUESDAY
REFLECT as a family on the lesson taught last weekend by referring to your child’s Discovery Class handout. Choose one of the ideas on the “To Do at Home” section and do it as a family or encourage your child to do it independently. If you did not receive a handout, here is an example of one of the ideas mentioned: Do a kind deed in secret for someone this week. For whom did you do something?
WEDNESDAY
REQUEST a time for your family to meet together for a family prayer. Give your children an opportunity to tell you some of their prayer requests. Take time for anyone who wants to pray silently or aloud. Here is a sample closing prayer.
Dear Jesus, Help us to understand that we have a responsibility in this world. Help us to understand that there are other people in this world that don’t know about you. We realize there is “No Mission Impossible” for you. This week we ask that you would give us the strength to “go” into our world and make a difference by doing a random act of kindness for someone who cannot repay us. Amen
THURSDAY
REMEMBER the weekly Bible verse, Matthew 28:19, and take turns reciting it to each family member.
FRIDAY
RESPOND to what you have learned as a family this week by taking an action step! Here is an example of something you can do as a family to reinforce the Bible theme for this week: Make plans to have an indoor picnic or go out to eat together. While you are together, talk about ways your family can serve together. A couple of ideas are by having another family over, going to visit a shut in, everyone inviting someone to Revival, or
sending to cards to special people in your lives.
Have a great week.
